Hey guys. So I am aware of this recall or problem with these cars where the code pops up saying cam sensor bank A but its really an alternator. I had the code, car drove fine. I cleared it and drove about 200+ miles until it came back. While it was on, the second time only, it stuttered twice or so. The next day it drove fine and then the light went away on its own and as of right now no dtcs.....sigh... I bought a new cam sensor for $19 anyway; so my question is: where is bank one/bank A on a 2006 4.6? Is that drivers side? If it is an alternator ok cool problem solved, but that wouldnt cause the car to stutter. Car is not under warrentee. Any suggestions please? Thanks guys.

Most likely your alternator. I had the same issue, it was my alternator.

Bank one is the passenger side cam sensor on the valve cover. Most likely the alternator though as 3vStang said and common problem especially since its an early model. Original alternator? Should probably upgrade to a PA Performance for AM. And while your at mind as well clean your throttle body since you'll be in that area anyway and that could be your "stutter".

So bank 1 is the left side? As if im looking at the front bumber? ( just to be sure). Does p0340 always reference to that specific side? Eh ill check the tb again. I did the intake in june and cleaned it. Car has 84.5k miles on it stock alternator w pulleys on it. Battery and spark plugs were done. Idk ill keep an eye on it.
It hasnt stuttered in a few days. Thanks guys

Ive heard people say bank 1 or A is the drivers side so i just wanna make sure its def the passenger side. (left side of the 4.6) I would have just replaced both banks sensors but pep boys only had one in stock lol and was half the price of the dealer part, Ill try that before an alternator just for good measure. already bought one sensor anyway

You could do a search and find lots of threads.............its the alternator 99% of the time.

The car stutters because the extra AC current from the alternator is causing the cam sensor to send a bad signal to the ecm. If you were aware of the problem, why buy a cam sensor that you didn't need?

Buy a new alternator.

That would make a car stutter? I figured id do the cheapest repair first. When i felt the twitch i figured an alternator wouldnt do that and maybe it was the sensor, for $19 why not. Ive done plenty of research but $400 on alternator does suck...

Nice idea to do the cheapest first but you are replacing a sensor that isn't bad. As others indicated, it's the alternator. I had to replace mine this summer. Went with the Performance Automotive as a lot of folks said they got about 2-3 years on a rebuild/replacement Ford alternator and had the same problem again. I realize it's a big cash outlay but it's the alternator. Sorry.
