Default Can't Decide Between a 2003-04 Mach 1 or 2005 + GT

Hello all,

I'm sure this question has been asked but here goes.

I've been looking and looking at 03-04 Mach 1's and 2005 and newer GT coupes. (Originally I thought I wanted a convertible....) I just cannot decide what the heck I want.

Basically the car that I plan on getting will be only used for good weather pleasure cruising and the occasional trip to work - for both the wife and I.

Maybe doing some small performance modifications to the car. Nothing too crazy.

I plan on spending around $12k or less for a well taken care of car.

I really like the Machs and I like the style of the 2005+ cars. I want another V-8 so a newer V-6 is out.

What would you do?

If you can find a Mach 1 with a manual tranny that's in really good original condition, grab it 'cause it'll definitely be a future collectors' car.
Otherwise grab an '05-'09 GT and if you're going to keep it long term, mod the hell out of it.

I love the 03-04 Mach I's and wouldn't mind owning a low mileage unit but there's a world of difference between the old foxbody-based suspension & the new one in the '05-09 GT's. I loved my '02 GT but when I got my '08 Bullitt, the ride went from buckboard to Cadillac comfort.

Just a thought if it's going to be a daily driver.

There is no comparison between the older Fox body style and the newer 05-09 in terms of build quality, ergonomics, and ride quality. Sit in and drive both and you see the clear difference. The choice should be clear.

Thanks for the replies. I've driven several newer fox body GT's, however I haven't been in an 05+. The kid in me wants the Mach but price wise I feel that spending the money on a newer car would be more beneficial.

Maybe I'm getting old....

The Mach1 has the collector value in the long run, Plus you would have too do some work to get the 05 up to speed with some of the nicer options of the Mach1.

From 05 and on they used a much stronger chassis.

When I was car shopping I looked at some '99-04 GT's, and Mach 1's...the Mach 1's were IMO way too expensive, people were asking more for them than '05-07 GT's, and I wanted the updated interior and chassis of the '05+. I didn't care about collector value and I knew I wouldn't leave the car stock anyway. I owned two fox chassis cars in the past and I wanted something with a more modern chassis.

Not a Mach but I found this '01 Cobra with less than 40k for the right price. I am kinda drooling over it for some reason...
