Default RE: Check engine light

Got it back today from the dealer today and the problem was the fuel sender in the tank was bad. Here is the kicker.....While in the dealer waiting for the paperwork the service manager tells me that he has 2 more Mustangs in for the same thing they think. As is said before I think Ford has a problem on their hands and hope more read this when the check engine light goes on...hopefully yours won't! Hope Ford takes a look at the sending units. []

Hi, all.

I had this same problem. It happened last month; always in 1st gear (5sp), and twice. The first time, the digital message centre advised of a "DTE" (distance to empty) error. I shut the car off and turned it back on; it reset ok, but then about an hour later, same thing....only this time, the "check engine" light stayed on.

The dealer initially said the same thing re "techron" into the fuel (as an additive, though, to clean the sending sensor points in the fuel tank vs. high sulfur). But the car only requires 87 octane, and that's what was used. A day later, I got a call that the problem was ID'd: the fuel tank has TWO sending sensors, due to the "wishbone" shape of the tank; and the left side one had failed. It was replaced (but had to drop the fuel tank to do it, etc.).

All's well now; happened at 8500km (sorry, Canada here; that's around 5100 miles).

Masterchief-
Sorry to hear that. The dealers here gave me the same sort of line but it wasn't about just MY Mustang GT but the Ford GT also! Ford brought out these 2 cars and when something goes wrong they don't have a clue! And this is with the 4.6L engine which has been around for a while! Just keep driving it until it breaks and they HAVE to replace it.

You are right!! I like the attitude....To have such a reason for a quality car to go on the fritz is crap. This is my first Ford and I thought they had a ".......better Idea." Guess not. Like you said I will drive it till it breaks. Although since the dealer replaced the right side sending unit it seems to work ok now. We will see. Thanks for the reply

i got the dte error about 2 weeks ago. the fuel gauge would randomly drop to E and go back to full after shutting the car off. dealer replaced the sending unit. had them replace the tank while they were at it. so far so good.

aagvain,

How many miles on your Stang and how long have you had it? Seems almost like a recall problem for Ford doesn't it? Mine still good but dealer called today asking how they did on service and so far so good.
