Default Fist Oil Change

Guys, 300 more miles and I'll be doing the first oil change. I was thinking of using synthetic. Can anyone make any reccomendations:

1. Brand
2. Weight\Viscosity
3. Oil Filter

Thanks in advance.

Well, you'll get alot of different opinions on this. My question is, how many miles on the car? Do you drive it easy or spirited? My personal choice was, to wait until I had at least 6,000 on the car. I drive it hard at least once-a-day, because my daily commute is only 9 miles, on a 50mph road. So, every morning I hit the highway on my way to work, and push it to 5500-6000 rpm's in 3rd & 4th, then drop by so I don't get busted @ 110-120mph. I put in Amsoil synthetic 0W30. I will do my oil changes, every 6 months! Now, before everyone jumps on me about ‘Factory’ recommended oil weight and change intervals, I have my oil analyzed. This way, I’m sure of how well it’s doing the job and can prove to Ford, if anything goes wrong. I use Blackstone Labs to analyze my oil. Also, Amsoil has just released a new oil filter, using nanofiber techology, good for 25,000 miles or 1 year change. https://www.amsoil.com/products/ea_filters/EaO.aspx I know most won’t do this or believe it, but they put it in writing, right on the side of the filter box! Bottom line, use what you feel comfortable with.

I first changed my oil on my 06, 5M GT at 700 miles and put in synthetic 5W- 20. I broke in this car like I've always done, red lined it out of the dealership and ran the holy sh-t out of it the first 20 miles, then flogged it till 500 miles, then just normal driving. The cars I break in this way always want to rev easier, pull harder and are faster than the ones that their owners say they broke in slowwwwly. Read the manual, people assume it says not to exceed a certain rpm, etc but it doesn't. Pound em hard and they run better. I dyno'ed my 05, 5M GT before I rolled and totaled it and it was right at 270hp, 280 tq totally stock without tune. After break in this way it pulled 280hp and 301tq with just the Diablo canned 87 tune and no CAI or anything else.>>Doc

Well, here is the rundown on how I have been breaking her in...

went easy on her the first 100 miles, might have redlined her once or twice
At 200 miles, I installed a CAI and a tune, began to put more pressure on her
from 300 to 500, I consistently romped on her at least once every time I took her out.
At 500 miles, did 5 hardcore runs at the track... 1/4 mile dragstrip that is
She's approaching 700 miles right now.

How about Castrol Syntec, anybody use that...?

If you go with Syntec, go with the 0W-30 grade made in Germany. It is the only true synthetic of the Syntec line. Other great optins would include Mobil 1 0w-20 or 5W-20. Amsoil would also be a good choise. 5W-20 is the recommended grade I think.

[8D]I just did my first oil change and used Mobil 1 10w-30. I have a 01 vette also and use Mobil 1 in that. It is a true synthetic and is readily available. I guess AMSOIL and Royal Purple are good but a lot harder to find. I recommend the Mobil 1.....[sm=americanasmiley.gif]

I have heard that royal purple is the best thing out there. Im still also trying to figure out which one to go with as well. Im at about 650 and wanna change it at about 750. so all u guys who use synthetics, do u do it urself or have the dealer change it for you. if you have the dealer do it, do they have the oil or do you buy it and give it to them or how does that work?

lol Fist.

I changed mine at 500, with valvoline 5-20, and motorcraft filter.
I will change again at 3000 with mobile 1 5w-20 and motorcraft filter, and same from there on out.
When changing yourself
Just watch out for the drip onto the hose, next time I will make sure that doesnt happen as in 2nd picture. Nice of ford to put that right under the oil filter
