Its not a rotary, its a Ford DOHC V8 and the R stands for "Racing" or something like that -- usually when you see that in a car designation it means racing or race technology or something.

You can buy them by used, they are no longer made, and actualy they were not as fast as the subsequent 290 HP Cobra.

So what year (if any) did they actually produce a Mustang GT-R? I have never seen or heard of a real Mustang designated that way, but someone I know (not so worthy a source) told me that they did produce one sometime in the mid-1990s.

No such designation as GT-R has ever graced the Ford Mustang, there has of course been the Cobra R and thankfully it wasn't with Japanese writing or cheesy "bling" everywhere.

I think he was talking about that stripped out 1993 Cobra R. Supposedly it was the fastest Fox body ever built (and quite a bit faster than it's 1993 SVT Cobra counterpart), but I have never seen one in person.
