The new 3v 281 can take a lot more hp than the 2v 281's ever could.

i have read this but i can't understand why because ford used the same cracked cap powder rods and weak pistons as all the mods do. i have seen dyno tests where the stock 3V engine is making 600+hp(with boost). i realize that one pull on the dyno isn't like beating them repetitively at the track but the editors and engine builders sware they can handle it. unfortunately from the experiences of others in the real world making multiple runs with lots of n2o or boost about 450-500 seems the limit mostly due to those POS hyperusucktic pistons.

I think right around 450 RWHP is about all you want to go on the stock motor. I think it's only a matter of time to throw a rod when you get over 500. But I also think with just a few swap-outs, forged internals, pistons, etc. It will handle 600-650 RWHP. It is a good block and I think the rods & pistons are the weak link.
