Strange tranny/clutch noise during shifts

RE: Strange tranny/clutch noise during shifts
Is this relative to the actual tranny, or the shifter? Obviously my S281 has a short throw adapter from Saleen, and I don't have any clunking noises. Just wonder if adding the Saleen quick ratio adapter (only $29) or even upgrading to a Tri-Axe (the word axe is so cool ) or some other shifter would eliminate these "clunks"??

RE: Strange tranny/clutch noise during shifts
the clunk i'm referring to has nothing to do with shifting- its backlash sound as engine goes from 'powering to braking' as you lift throttle after accelerating, or when releasing clutch at downshift...the little bit of rotational slop in the gearbox/slipyoke splines causes a slight 'klunk' as its taken up in the other direction...I think a lot of this could be the ATF used in manual gearboxes now too- older boxes ran heavy oil, and although it robbed power, it has a bit more damping to it...although my 93 f150 had ATF too and the 5 speed in it was quiet except for a bit of synchro whine at downshifting(normal).
Something odd- anyone know why ford chose to use a ujoint front/cv joint center&rear setup? kinda defeats the purpose of the cv joint dont it? unless the cardan u-joint is paired with 2nd there will be slight velocity changes between input/output shaft...seems a cheeper one piece driveshaft woulda made more sense and cost less to boot...with 2 ujoints the shaft velocity will fluctuate but input/output wont as long as angles are equal...or better yet 2 cv joints to make it all smooth...I did rotate driveshaft with a finger in it and you can feel gaps open close, so ujoint does have a bit of angle to carrier bearing...
