Default $2K in mods??

Reposting in the correct forum:

Okay, here's the deal, let's say you just picked up a 2006 Mustang GT a few weeks ago, have
the 1000 break in miles on and now you are looking to mod.

You want to start slowly and want to spend around $2K in mods first.
Right now your priority is increasing engine power.
You don't want to make the car obnoxiously loud though.

What are the best "basic" mods for this car to get increased power.
My guess would be
CAI
High Flow Cat Back Exhaust
ECU tune? Not sure if that yields much on this car.

Insight please and what kind of power gains can I truely expect?

I went with a Magnaflow exhaust w/ high flow cats and x-pipe, a Diablo tune, a CAI, and underdrive pulleys to start. That gave me great results and great driveability. I have added to that and am headed to a Diablo tuner for a complete Dyno tune next friday. Opening the breathing was a big help, but all these claims by CAI companys that you do not need a tune are misleading. If you go CAI and exhaust, you need at least a canned tune.

Good luck!

You've heard of the Y pipe.. the X pipe.. the H pipe.. nothing can touch the O pipe!!! It provides 100% back pressure feedback on ALL engines!! Torque increase and kuneutson valve float brings in much lower revs so you don't hurt your motor! Not CARB Legal. Please specify standard or polished finish. Product shown is dual input O-Pipe with standard finish.

If you are looking in the immediate,
I would go
CAI + Tune
Stiffer springs
Zwx Nitrous

If you are looking long term,
I would go
CAI + Tune
Full Exhaust
Some suspension work
Start saving again and throw on a S/C

I'm ordering all my mods in a week or two once I receive my tax return back...

FRPP headers: 400 (coated)
PRO-50 shifter: 290
intake/tuner/pulleys: 700 (RPMoutlet's C&L predator and pulley package)
Flowmaster Axleback: 280
Mezeire elec w/p: 330 (including wiring and relay)
*****************
total cost: $2,000 even (n/i tax)

***************************
not too sure about the pulleys and the pump....
there was another thread on this but people swear by their pulley swap kits. 3 minor pulley size changes shouldn't come close to touching the power gain of completely eliminating the water pump especially considering that the waterpump sucks the most power out of the engine as it's the hardest to turn...we shall see.

I think the tuner is the most significant, since they allow you to take advantage of 91 octane. Ford holds this back on the stock tune. The ford tune has some refinement factors -- it softens tip in and pulls the throttle back near redline.

After that, only nitrous or S/C gives you bang for the buck, IMO.

Why get pulleys and an electric water pump?
IMO, get the tuner/intake package with either pulleys or the water pump. Then get a high quality set of long tube headers and your Flowmasters.
