Has anyone used under drive pulley's on their Mach? I have a set of Steeda pulleys on my Mach and I had someone tell me that under drive pulley's can cause oil pump failures on the Mach's 4V motor. They have been onthe carfora while and no problems so far, has anyone ever heard this? The steeda pulley's aren't a cheap piggy pulley like the others and have a balancer built in with the crankshaft pulleyto Ford Spec's. Do I need to that this into concideration?

You might be one of the lucky ones but yes... over on the mach1registry... everyone fears them and decides to save a $100 or 2 and spare some horsepower elsewhere. IMO I'd stay away from them.

 

Im still trying to figure out how a pulley can cause an oil pump failure? I know that the oil pump is driven off of the crank shaft but wouldn't a underdrive pulley make less stress on the pump it self as well as the crankshaft?

I did several research's today on the subject and most people seem to befull of it. I talked with both PHP and Steeda today and they say don't believe everything you read on the internet, most of it's BS, someone has aproblem do to a poor install, cheap part, and everyone freaks out and all the sudden they have a simular problem. They as well said that most failure's have been do to high horsepower cars/machs being rapped well above 7,200 rpm'swith the stock internals that wern't made for that plus 500 horse power, especially the stock oil pump with that kind of power. They both told me not to sweat it, and to stay away from the piggy back style under drive pulley's. That's what I learned today, thought I'd share. As well as the cobra's from 96-2002 have the same oil pump as the Mach's and I have never heard anyone worrying about oil pump failure do to under drives on those cars, kind of funny isn't it

You asked the question first in your post, so you must have had some reservations about using them. If, as you stated, most of what you read on the internet is BS, why then did you post your question on an internet forum?

 

Yea I know....pretty Newbie of me[&:]The problem is I got sucked in, got worried for no reason, I should of done my research before my post (lol). Learn something new everyday I was also looking for a more positive feed on the subject, most things brought up on forums have more negativity these days. I tend not to browse as much as I used to, but Im still learning, the Mach I own has only been sitting in my garage for three weeks now.

 

Good luck with them then and enjoy the Mach. Four years after buying mine brand new I still enjoy the h*ll out it.

 

I've got em, and I have no issues - I was the same way, I was asking in all sorts of forums, worried about the pump, I called Steeda, Ford, and a bunch of local speed shops, all of them said the same thing:
"The underdrive pulley's did not cause the catastrophic failure, drivers bouncing off or removing the rev limiter and then staying in the red zone constantly broke the oil pumps."

 

5000 rpm............ we're moving now!
