Default Buying a Mach 1?

Hey all. Just from those of you who have or are thinking of buying an 03 or 04 Mach 1, what's the average price range for these cars? Also, how hard/easy are mods for this car? I am torn between buying one of these cars or a 94-95 cobra when I graduate nursing school in May.

Depends where you live! Some guys have bought their's for around 18k with 15k on the clock! You really wont find a 95-96 for that price with that many miles and the mach 4v loves after market mods! I'd say mach ftw!

I would buy the mach 1 for many reasons. The 94-95 cobra is going to have a lot of miles engine probably has to be rebuilt who knows.Alsothe cobra doesn't haveaIRS it was installed in the99 and up cobras.Besides your going to have HP in the mach 1 than the 94-95 cobra.

Not according to quite a few ppl. If you take a modded 94-95 5.0 against a mach 1, the 5.0 would beat the 4.6---that's according to ppl here, and on some other sites I've been on. Also the 4.6 are dohc, and much harder to work on, not to mention more expensive.
I just don't know. I'm really unsure of what I want to get...I don't want to make a $20K mistake ya know?

Dont' underestimate the Machs...with a couple of grand in upgrades (cai/headers/full exhaust/gears) you can handle the average h/c/i fox...

there is no 20k mistake buying a Mach...

Serious? But wouldn't that make it easier for the block to crack?

The mach's block is plenty strong. much more so than a standard 2-bolt 302...The weakness in the Mach, as with all the n/a4valves, is the pistons and rods. The cranks in the 5 speed cars are extremely good forgings capable of quite a bit of power...

Just understand as with a 302, you are limited in the power output of a stock shortblock. The 302 and the 4v are similar in that their reliable power levels are in the 425-450 rwhp range. Much above that the 302 block will split down the lifter valley and the 4v will spit rods...

In order for the pushrod engine to reach the power level that the stock mach's block can take you have to step up to the r302 or the new boss block.

So a mach can take a SC just fine then? What about the nonforged internals? What exactly does that mean?

YEs, it can but to a point. The problem is mostly with the stock connecting rods. They are the powder cast variety and don't do well with forced induction. A good tune can and will help, but cannot completely make up for the inherent weakness in the rod design.
