Default Header Gaskets

Well, its close to being inspection time. So that means off comes the offroad H pipe and the Bassani catted X goes back on. Has anyone used any type of gasket between the header and midpipe to seal the two together? The reason I ask is no matter which pipe I have had on, I always have a small exhaust leak, no matter how much I tighten the bolts. This constant tightening lead to me stripping the header bolds and having to replace them and I don't want to do that again. I will probably keep the catted X on until I move out of the city (then comes LTs and offroad H), so welding isn't an option right now.

I used exhaust sealer pooky in a tube on mine and that shat WORKED, mang! Messy and ugly, but functional, especially in short bursts like what you need.

Also, in the stock location (mainfold to mid), there is a one use crush gasket available from FoMoCo for the passenger side (PN 2C5Z9448AA ~$20). If you're leaking on the passenger bank, try that. There may be some other crush gaskets similar to that available at the Zone, O'Reilly's, etc. Take your mid that you're installingin so as tomatch the ID and get a snug fit.

If you want to go shade tree on it, you can make your own crush gasket with aluminum foil. They do work, and if you decide to go the old skewl route, lemme know so I can make fun of you mercilessly for being like me.

I found some on latemodelrestoration.com. I might get in contact with them and find out what I need exactly.

I got mine at AutoZone. Thin, but rigid, alum. piece. $12.65 after tax. How the hell did I remember that?
