Default Spray paint advice

So I had a couple of scratches in my front bumper in a 4 by 4 in. area and I used that touch up paint kit and let me say it looks like s**t, works great on small scratches but anything bigger than a couple 16ths of an inch it sucks because you gotta use the small brush. I was thinking of going to Home Depot and getting some spray paint and some primer and isolate that area with newspaper and sand it down and painting it. My question is, will some enamel paint do, or do I gotta get something else? Thanks.

man is it really necessary? I dont want to have to pay a couple hundred dollars for something I can do myself. All of my driving is on the highway so I get nicks from rocks every now and then so i'm holding off to like next year to paint the whole car.

In all honesty, the above advise is probably best. Anything you get from Home Depot is going to look like crap. For front and rear modern day bumpers you can get away without blending them in, but you must paint the entire panel and then clear it for it to look right. For the money you'd spend on just the right paint, you'd be nearly ahead to take it to a small low overhead body shop and have it done right. Nevermind the paint gun and compressor if you don't already have either.

if you dont like the way it looks throw a bra on it till you get the money to repaint!!!!! it would look 10x better than the diy paint job your thinking about!!!!!

Well I'm planning on having the car painted and I have the money to do it but the paint still looksgood so I wanted to wait till next year to paint it. Its only a temporary fix I dont like looking at scratches on my car. I'm pretty good with a spray can i actually painted a piece of my mothers car and it looks pretty good but obviously if you get real close you'll notice the color isn't perfectly matched and theres just a little orange peel because its not as good as doing it with a paint gun, but I can't remember if it was enamel paint or not.

Unless your factory paint job is ridiculously bad, I wouldn't repaint the car. It is going to cost a lot of money to get a paintjob that will look good. I would just get your hood and maybe bumper repainted to get rid of the chips. I would then invest in the 3M Clear Bra to protect it.

^ thats what i'm saying, I would say my paint is in very good condition, the front bumper is great except for these scratched that some idiot, it either happened at the supermarket or at red lobster the other night, the hood is the area that needs a little work it has a lot of very very small rock nicks but i'm not worried about it. Like I said I will paint the car next year, I'm thinking of not putting the black stripe on the hood just leave it allblack with the side mach1 stickers. I just sanded it down and applied the primer, its looking good so far, I'll try to post pics afterward. I did some airframe work on airplanes so i've painted with both spray can and guns, but I dont have the equipment to do it right.
