You would be better off building a shortblock off your current block. The aluminators are ok, but for the price you can build a MUCH better shortblock.

The difference is compression, if you plan on boost, stay in the 9.5:1 range with a 4v.

In my case I have a 99 GT auto tranny and would like to upgrade to a 4V engine. The Aluminator long block offered by FRPP seems like a very cost effective alternative to me.

In my case what is needed? I also plan on changing the tranny to a T-56 but on the long term. I'd like to keep my tranny and start with the engine.

Any suggestions?

Felen, what power level are you looking at? you will crack the aluminator block is you put normal 4v mounting bolts in it...the threads are deeper.
