need transmission advise!
ok i got a 04 mach 1. the tranny does not stop giving me problems. two time already the pedal gets kinda of hard and the gears start giving me a hassle to shift in or out of them when i rev it up high. if i drive normal and shift at 2 or 3k rpms they go in but not completely smooth. sometime they'll grind a lil. as of twenty minutes go no gear will engage and the clutch pedal feels to soft. what can be causing this mess. i do have a mc cleod street series clutch and the steeda firewall adjustable kit wit the steeda short shifter. any ideas
What you are describing is a clutch engagement problem. If your firewall adjuster is round, then you have put a point load on the firewall, which is causing flex. This keeps the clutch from fully disengaging, which creates havoc inside your transmission and can kill it pretty quickly.
If you have a square base adjuster then it should be stabilized sufficiently, but it needs adjustment. As your clutch spins faster and gets hotter it will get thicker. If you do not have the adjustment right on the linkage you will not get full disengagement of the disc, especially at higher rpm. Your car is known for this problem.
Chances are you don't have any internal damage to the transmission yet, but you need to get this taken care of or you will definitely have a smoking pile of transmission soon. We have solutions if you need them, and transmissions if the problem has gotten that far.
Let me know how I can help.

so my firewall adjuster is round and spins counterclock wise as well as clockwise to either grab low or high. i love it low thats were the setting is. but in your explanation what do u mean by put a point load on the firewall
When I say you are putting a point load on the firewall, imagine you have a balloon and you poke it with your finger tip. Now imagine you press on the balloon with your open palm. Your finger tip represents a point load, which is why the balloon will deform around your finger. Your factory cable had a big plastic and rubber thing on the firewall. When you took that out and put in the small round adjuster, you actually made the firewall flex problem worse because you reduced the surface area that is taken up on the firewall. If you buy a firewall adjuster with a stabilizer (which we sell by the way for $69) you will spread the energy out over a larger area and keep the firewall from flexing.
These small round adjusters are one of the worst ideas ever for Mustangs and are responsible for a LOT of broken shift forks and messed up transmissions. If there was one item I would sell to every Mustang owner with a cable clutch, it would be that little firewall stabilizer along with a low stretch cable actuator if they are still running the stock unit. This is definitely a spend a little before you have to spend a lot item.

In all honesty it just sounds like your clutch isn't adjusted properly and the clutch isn't fully disengaging when you push on the pedal. I would set the adjuster so your clutch engages further off the floor. I can't imagine the firewall would flex enough to actually affect the engagment of the clutch.
