Default Affordable cams for a 4v...WTF!

right now i am talking with some guys about cams for our machs and gain/ losses from installing into our bone stock motor. In the near future i might be adding cams to our best mods list!

sneek peak...think 4v 4.6 and a luxury vehicle.

NMRA factory stock motors use these cams, not Mach intake cams or 99/01 Cobra intake cams. With stock heads, stock intake and no long tubes these engines make over 370rwhp, under the old rules one made over 390rwhp. these are basically bolt on cars with ~11:1 compression....a small dish could bring the down to ~10.8 or something close to that i am not sure how an 11:1 compression motor would react to 93 octane though

STONE...post my mach cam specs.

ok here is what i've got so far after more reading and research.

Our intake cams are somewhat small @ .394-inch lift and a 184 duration.
the 99-01 cobra cams are only slightly better @ at 0.390-inch lift and 194 duration

Now lets take a look at the 96-98 cobra camshafts @.050 the 205-206 duration.
just a straight install of these intake cams will gain 20-25fwhp through a bone stock mach 1, but this will cause a loss of torque...which isn't appealing to most of us, so why do this? b/c with a 8-10* and the loss in torque should be non noticeable if a slight gain in tq.

from another 4v owner he gain 15-17 rwhp with just a cai/mid pipe and cat backs...he said he is expecting to gain at least that in torque and about 10-15rwhp when he adds longtubes and a tune

USMCrebel----Could we expect these gains to be a good bit higher with a P&P of the intake and heads?

Hmm, I'm thinking that low end torque loss is going to be noticable. At least on a bone stock Mach with 3.55 gears. It would most likely need to be offset by a much steeper gear, say a 4.30, which might also cause some top-end issues, especially with the stock gearing of the TR3650. I don't know enough about the automatic tranny, but it might be better suited to this cam swap, with the addition of a high stall converter.

The low end loss will be ofset by the advance the cam 8-10*. With every other engine mod available you will see even greater results.

I should also mention that my cams are installed straight up with no advance, and my torque is really good. However, na svt & I are going to go back & advance them and then re-dyno to see if it makes a big difference.
