Default went to the track today, bad runs!!

Ok, just got back from palm beach raceway and first off it was very crowded so I only got 3 runs in. They are as follows:

1. R/T-.215, 60ft time-2.36, ET- 14.02@103.48mph.

2. R/T-.138, 60ft time-2.07, ET- 13.76@95.92mph.

3. R/T-.404, 60ft time-1.91, ET- 13.32@104.78mph.

I was getting better each run but I thought I would be faster. I must admit, it was a lot harder then I thought to launch the car right. I couldnt even tell you what I was doing on the first two runs, I had to much going through my head. On the third run I focused and launched at 3000rpms and let off the cluch a little slower and had some wheel spin, but it was the best run of the night.

I did notice my belt was squicking when I switched gears and it was making some noise after my last run, so I will look into that. I know this sounds crazy, but the car feels a little sluggish ever since I installed the new shifter, maybe its just me. Well those are the runs for now but I will be back.

1. invest in suspension?

2. are you running the correct psi and warming those nittos up right? you should be a little better than even a 1.9 with a DR. Burn them bitches till you see white smoke, drive around the waterbox imo.

also maybe its just my opinion, but stock shifter for the track is win, easier and feels better to bang gears, short shifter for the twisties.

It's all good man. Obviously, more is attainable, but you're not worlds off. Just be sure to FOCUS from the start of the burnout until you cross the finish line. I've learned to focus on every little detail so much that it almost takes the fun out of it. Getting faster takes paying attention to tire psi, burnout technique, launching technique, efficient shifting, and optimal shiftpoints. It also takes the mentality that you can always do it better. Some points to consider...keep the car the same. Don't make any changes to her that would make it hard to gauge your improvement. Your 555r tire should hook every time with a proper burnout. Go down 2 psi at a time if you're spinning excessivly. I have 4.10s also and have found that 2/3 shift is best at 6300 and 3/4 shift is best at 6000. Sorry for the long reply. If you're going to make it a point to go faster, I don't want you to go through as much aggravation as I did.

thanks for the replies. I deff. had a good time. One thing I had a problem with was the burnout. I cant hold the clutch, brake, and gas at the same time obviously. So what I did was rev up to about 3500rpms and slowly let the clutch out. The tires would spin but I would redline so fast I would have to push the clutch back in and then the tires would hook up. So the longest I could burn out for was maybe 1 sec.

I was also shifting just before the redline.

Not bad for your first time out. Lower the psi on the rears, also consider getting a line lock, I got one and love it. It really smooths out the burnout process and gives you more consistant ETs.

Don't need a line lock
Just push in clutch while revving it to about 4k then as fast as possible release clutch and step on brake, should have em' spinning by then

Well of course it's not necessary but considering I, and maybe also the op,don't go to the track often enough to keep my burnout skills up to date, the line lock really makes things easier. Also considering you're not wearing out your rear brakes and the reduced drivetrain shock, it's a win/win for me and being able to do perfect burnouts in the street whenever a friend asks me to is a plus. Well worth the money.
