Default Mach 1 Engine question

Hello All,
Not a mach 1 owner, but have always loved the look of the 2003-04 mach 1s..... Anyways, I have the opportunity to buy a 2004 Mach 1 engine that I plan on shipping to MMR for a mmr1000 upgrade. so I have a few questions....

1. Is there any way to tell if the car is a auto or 5speed just by looking at a picture of the engine while still in the car..... Sounds like a really stupid question, but have to ask.

2. the 2004 engines had the revised heads that fixed the cooling issue seen in the cobra's, correct? I need to look for a blue mark on the back of the head on the passenger side, right?

3. Where the heck do you guys buy your valve covers at? I don't consider myself to be a complete idiot, but I cant seem to find them at American Muscle, or at any of the major suppliers..... I would really like a set of carbon fiber valve covers or a nice set painted in black.

Thanks!

Never mind about question 1. Based on the pics I have, I don't see a automatic dipstick tube.

not sure about auto mustangs, never owned one but brother had an auto explorer, and ive seen other fords with "sealed systems" no dipstick may not always tell the story.

Well you can look at the gauge cluster and look at the red line of the RPM's. Auto's have 6200 and manuals are 7200 i believe.

Mustangs didn't incorporate the 'sealed' system until 05. 04 is still dipsticked.

Early 03 models had the 4 threaded plugs, later 03 the heads were revised to 9 threaded and I believe it still suffered the cooling issue on cylinder #7-#8. Ford replaced the left head on certain 03's and it has a blue paint where the intake manifold bolts on to indicate the service writers the heads been replaced. The 04's all came with 9 threaded heads & they don't have the cooling issue from what I'm aware of.
