I hope this question doesn't sound stupid, but if it does sorry in advance.
I bought my 2003 Mach 1 5 speed Manual trans to satisfy my midlife crisis, so my wife says !
My question is, what is the best way to shift to get the best gas mileage?
As I bought this Mach 1 cause it sounds throaty mean and I drive it on weekends, also I'm 61 years young so my racing days are over.
Thanks in advance....Big Al.
I don't have a Mach 1 myself but for best gas mileage, shift early and often. Keep rpms low but not to a point where you're lugging the engine (for example, at 1k rpms at 30 mph in 5th gear).

yea, but hows anybody going to hear this badboy going 30mph at 1k- anyway
What kind of gas mileage are you trying to get ?? Just don't go up on your rpm's but its a mustang so good luck with that..
I'm trying to get at least 24 in the city and 36 on the highway
Sorry cleangraystang, I'm just effing with you.
I'm getting around 13 in the city which I figured was a little low.
But yeah I got to change gears a little quicker.
Thanks again.....Big Al.
i get 20 average combined hwy/city on my commute daily, and 25 straight interstate driving at 72mph with 3.73's. so you should get that as well depending on driving style.
