Here's some food for thought also, the LONGER the cables, the more resistance you have to deal with, especially in cooler weather. BUT witha good charge, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference until one cold morning/evening.

On some batteries if you charge on 2 amp, it won't charge....and the resistance between 2 feet of conductor and 12 feet of conductor is probably less than a 1/4 of an ohm.

You may be right, but I have found that my trickle charger set at1 ampwill keep my 12 volt battery charged at full strength while it is stored during the winter.

That'd be ahigh internalresistance batter. Stick with a low internal resistance battery like an Optima and you won't have too many problems (as long as you don't let it get low and expect your charging system to survive, anyway).
