Default Tach?

I need to figure out how to fix my tach, i had a v-6, i was wondering if i can still use it with my v-8? my dad says that he thought there was a pill or module that they put in them for the 4 bangers and the v-6s, he said that if there is i should just be able to take it out and the tach will work. otherwise i'm going to find a tach that would fit in the hole and appear stock. Anyone know of a tach that fits the bill?

he's right, there is a module that plugs into the back of the tach so you can use it with the V8.

I have it in my car, but i hooked up a sunpro tach anyways because i needed higher than the stock tach offered.

held on the steering column with a hose clamp i sprayed flat black..... its about the right size and i believe it fits in alot better than one of those stupid jumbo units everyone slaps on the dash. that little one hanging down is oil pressure, and i use the stock gauges for water, battery, etc

you'd have to hack the instrument clutser, but the rest of the gauges probably wouldnt work after that[8D]

btw for some reason the pic didnt work, so here it is again.....

77Stang,

I took that tach out and there was no pill, so I assume that it was wrong with V-6 then? So it should be right with the V-8 assuming i can get the plug to stay in. One of the clips holding the plug in is gone so the tach was loose and not working, the other clip is not far from it either. I'm going to try put some electic tape on it to see if it will stay in. If it still doesn't work i guess i'll have to get an aftermarket tach.

the extra piece is FOR the V8, so if its missing you NEED it..... i'd still go aftermarket - im very happy with mine that i stuck on the steering column.

ah, I see, the pill is for the V8. that makes a lot more sense.I just reread your post frombefore and you said a pill to make it work for the V8, i'm dumb.I guess i'll just go aftermarket because i don't feel like searching through all our clusters to find one.[:@]

thanks again man
