Out of the factory it seems that the Corvette's are still beating Cobra's. I have to admit its the power to weight ratio that is killing them. Well I have a feeling that in 2005 things will turn for the better in favor of Ford.</P>

The base GT boasts 300hp while in competition Ford has their 500hp GT supercar and the Shelby Cobra Concept which will even further kick the socks off a Generation 4 LS2. This will be the true comparison to the Corvette just like in the good old days when Carrol Shelby built that fine machine. </P>

The Cobra Concept has 6.4L V-10 with 605hp with 501ft.-lbs of torque. All this to 7500rpm. And it only weighs 3000lbs. If you ask me the days of the Corvette are coming to an end.<IMG src=smileys/smiley16.gif border="0"></P>

First of all, the new Z06 should be able to outrun a GT (in the straights) if in fact they do put 500hp in it. Why? Well the current base model Corvettes (C5's) weigh less than the new GT. Then there's talk of a super vette known as "blue devil". This car is suspected to have 625hp and shedded weight, as will the Z06. The current C6 curb weight is slightlyover 3100 lbs, which is what the current Z06 has. Do I speak of concepts, yes I do? The Shelby you speak of is also a concept. There are no plans for production yetfor any of the aforementioned cars.</P>

Laying all of that aside, what really made me respond to your post was your last sentence. I don't believe you could be any more far from the truth. There are cars that currently outperform a Corvette (a.k.a. Viper). Has this stunted the production or sales? I think not. In fact, they sell more these days. Why? The Vette has survived 50 years as America's Sports Car. To buy a car that's comparable in all around performance, you have to spend twice as much. People buy the Vette because it has tradition, a name, class, and the performance capabilities of exotics. So why is one lowly car from Ford going to end the Vette? </P><edited><editID>DontEvenTry</editID><editDate>38000.9745023148</editDate></edited>

In what respect are they being female's anatomy? There are definite plans for a 500hp Z06. The one I am more skeptical of when GM mentions it is the blue devil. What in the past has made you wonder about their performance car plans? Seems to me they have always had an edge.Ford, until recently, was the one who had nothing to show for.</P><edited><editID>DontEvenTry</editID><editDate>38000.9769791667</editDate></edited>

f-body...if they had ***** they'da reinvented it when sales dropped, but they pussed out and withdrew to change it or even worse leave it at rest. ford always had something to show for since the early 90's...cobra r's, cobras in general, and now the 03+cobras are just a big snake bite in gm's ***</P>

and oh yeah...lightnings and the GT</P>

and whats up with them trying to get in on sport compacts with the cavalier? if thats where their focus is then they need to change it quick IMO</P><edited><editID>Jugador</editID><editDate>38000.9875</editDate></edited>

Lightning and GT=recent</P>

Stock Cobra's from early90's andmost all Mustang's from early 90's weren't enough to keep up with the SS Camaro. It wasn't until the late 90's that Ford decided to scale up.</P>

I am really glad thatFord is now producing afactory race car (GT). Ifor a long time have wanted to see Ford to produce a sports carand the GT was an excellent choice. To me, Iwould rather have a GT than a Ferrari, Lambo, ect. I just love the wayit looks and performs. I would agree that GM should've kept the Camaro and T/A around, but they will be back. It's the ageold marketingploy. Make a car look like it's going extinct, then in a few years bring it back with a bang, to really boostsales and image. </P>

You are correct, but we were talking about Performance Vehicles, not trucks with 240hp. My old 97 F150 V6had 205 stock, and it was pretty slow. I assumed you were referring to the 99+ lightnings. Point being Ford didn't have any real performers to match other competitors in the 90's. I think it's in part due to the old CEO, the foreign guy who got fired after the Firestone issue. It's good to see they are changing that with the new CEO. As far as the new Cavalier is concerned, that's not worth discussing as it does not replace GM's performance vehicle line. It is simply marketed to the ricer market as is the SVT Focus. Both are crap IMHO.</P><edited><editID>DontEvenTry</editID><editDate>38001.001087963</editDate></edited>

Well for one, the 93 Lightning ran 0-60s of 7.5 seconds, which was fast for it's day. It is a performance vehicle, however by todays standards, it is not. Ford in fact had performers. There was no SS model in the early 90s when the Z28 5.0 and Foxbody 5.0 were battling it out, they were both on equal footing. This all changed when Chevy stepped up in 93 with the 275 hp LT1 and started to spank 5.0's. In 96 when the 4.6L GT motorcame out the LT1 was still beating them.</P>

As far as the new Cavalier is concerned with my part, it's dead. They are halting production and bringing a new line out. Thank God. The Cobalt will replace the Cavalier in Chevrolet's line up within the next year I believe. It was almost never a true performer, from the 2.8L V6 with 20 less hp than my 1.6L I4, to the 2.2 Ecotec STILL with 20 less hp, it was complete and utter crap. </P>

Hell I never lost to a Cavalier in my Escort, with less power (and less weight to boot)</P>

Ford is finally stepping up with it's Mustang. It's a great nameplate and in the early 90s it almost died. Now it's alive and healthier than ever, FINALLY the GT has 300 hp, something Chevy has had in the Z28 since 1998! I might actually consider a new GT in a few years unless Chevy comes out with a non-fugly Fbody like I've been seeing in the "concept drawing" stages.</P>
