Default Electronic ignition

I have a 66 Mustang coupe with a true 289 Hipo. Should I switch from points to electronic ignition? Thanks for any advice. Tom

If it's a "K" car, it will have a dual-point distributor with no vacuum advance provision, unless the distributor has been replaced. Electronic ignition is nice, especially if it uses a Hall-effect switch to replace the points. Some kits feature a whole different distributor; about those I can't tell you much, sorry.

Thanks for your reply. I bought this K code engine as a fresh rebuild, it did not come with a distributor at all. My 66 is a C code car, so I don’t have a distributor to use. Looking for advice as to what to buy. Thanks, Tom

OK, before you get her running and push it like a K engine, I'd figger out whether it really is a K. Otherwise, you might get some nasty surprises.

Yank off a valve cover, look at the rocker studs: Are they screwed into the head? K cars were, others pressed-in. imp
