Trying to keep it original
Hey everyone!
My name is James and I live in Sunrise FL. My father gave me his 66 mustang for fathers day and I'm totally stoked! But where to start? I've never been mechanically inclined and I wish I was more into it when the old man was working on the car. Checking fluids and changing the oil is all I know how to do. I took it to a machanic friend of mine and he'll give me the low down by tomorrow. But from there I don't know where to go to get original parts. Does anybody know of swap shops or mustang shows in Florida where I can get those hard to find parts? I've been waiting on this car forever but never thought I'd get it. I would like to keep it original as possible. It's got a 289 in it and the body integrity is great. Some scratches and minor dents though. Its red with black interior and an automatic . I'll post pics when I get the car back. If anyone can help that would be great. Also, if anyone can point me in the direction of a good shop manual for the 66 that's not so exspensive (since I'll be trying to do the restoration myself) or what magazines and any other literature on this car would be great. Thanks in advance!

RE: Trying to keep it original
Thank you! Well, I knew I would eventually get it but I feel he was waiting for me to become more responsible before he handed me the keys. I thank him for that because when I was younger, I ran all my cars to the ground. Now that I'm married and have a family, I have been more responsible and take care of things better. I've been reading these forums and have been enjoying them so far. "Big Red" will definetly benefit from these!

RE: Trying to keep it original
I would love to have an older Mustang someday. Consider yourself lucky to get one that doesn't need $30,000 worth of work to get it up to snuff. Every 67 or 68 I looked at I either could not afford or it was in such bad shape I couldn't afford to rebuild it.
Your dad is cool!
Enjoy the ride.
