Which gears: 3.55 or 3.73
Hello All.
New to the forums. I have come across another pristine Mustang, 1992 GT 23K orig mi, and the first mod I want to make is gears.
Do I go with the 3.55s or 3.73s? I don't want to make the car complete strip, I'd still like to drive back and forth to work (hghwy miles). What I really want to know is will I be wasting my time and money putting in 3.55s because later I will only want to put in the 3.73s anyway. Is there a big performance difference in the two? Is there a big difference in gas mileage between the two? Are both comfortable riding highway speeds?
Thanks.

RE: Which gears: 3.55 or 3.73
if performance is more of a concern the get 3.73's
if economy is important then get 3.55's
really theirs more to it than just a gear #, like what tranny you have - wjat other mods you have, etc.

Here's some more info to go on. Stock trans is in there and I'm going to keep it. I already put in Flowmaster catback system. I have plans to put in BBK H-pipe with cats, BBK shorty mufflers. Then either Edlebrock RPM II intake or GT-40. That's probably about the most I am going to do. Help this helps in answering the first question. I kinda what a cross between performance and economy.
Thanks.

If you just want a cross of the two, then go with the 3.55s. You'll only regret it if your up against a car similiar to yours and the other guy has the 3.73s cause he'll get the better jump. If you ever plan to add a s/c, I think 3.55s are perfect. In any case, your going to feel like you just added 50hp to your car from the way it pulls from the line in reference to stock gears. Happy gear swapping!
