High Mileage Engine
Thanks again for thewelcome into the forum!
My 1996 V6 has approx. 117,000 miles and I started to inquiry about the current engine rather than a new one. I didn't want to risk a compatibility issue with the new engine, so I want to know what my options are with the current engine. I was speaking with a mechanic friend of mine and he told me that it may be a possibility to get the current engine rebalanced, cleaned, port & polished, etc. Does anyone have any helpful advice or experiences to shareon how to proceed? I want to be cost effective but not cheap, so if a new engine is the way to go, please point me to the vendors! If I can gather life and power with my current engine, please explain.
Thanks.

Well, you have a few options, what is best will have to be determined by you. You could always upgrade to a v-8. You could build your v-6 and install a power adder, such as a s/c or turbo. What do you want the end result to be?
Thanks for the reply. The end result would definitely be the bigger the better. as such, I was also looking into supercharger options as well. How difficult would it be to "build" or upgrade to the V8? What about compatability issues (will the adjustments and modds run a higher risk than normal)? Thanks again.
The simplest method would be to rebuild the v-6 and put on a power adder. You can use the same harness, mounts, tranny(maybe-depends on the power adder). To get some ideas on what more is involved in swapping to v-8, check out the 4.6 section. They can tell you what you need and what it would approximately cost. You could find a wrecked donor car and swap everything to yours. You ultimately have to weigh out the pros and cons and see what fits your budget and goals.
Welcome to the forums. I know I have a much older car, but the 6 to 8 swap is worth it in my book, the sound and the performance capabilities are much greater with those extra two cylinders IMO.
