Default newbie question

Just got a 96 GT in good shape and looking to do some minor mods before the nasty weather sets in. The original sticker says it has the "optional ratio axle" which the previous owner assumed was 3.55 but wasn't sure. Anyone know for sure? I live on the Cape in Massachusetts & have heard to stay away from the Ford dealerships...any good words about a mechanic/speed shopon the mid or Lower Cape would be welcomed.

Looking forward to joining in...

Welcome to the forums, you should definitely drop by the 4.6 Modular Mustang section and they should have a better idea than I would about what gears you might be running. As for local mechanics you might want to drop by the Regional section and find people from around where you're at. Oh and do you have any pics of the car?

thanks for getting back...should've done some research before posting, but found a site(mustangspecs.com)that had a decoder for the CV...looks like my '96 has 3.27, not 3.55...if that's right, I'd probably go for a 3.73 instead of the 4.10.

I'll check the regional forum for local mechanics, thanks for the idea...I like your '68 ride, and the reason I like the mid-90's look is that it's like the classics. The local Chamber of Commerce was having a raffle on an '07 Shelby GT, and I bought a ticket (didn't win) but really didn't like the look...like yours on steroids.
thanks again.

No worries on doing research, I like to help out if I can. 3.27 gears aren't too bad, 3.55s would be better, and I definitely wouldn't go with 4.10s but thats me. My car has 3.55s and it has some nice pop off the line, not that its fast but it has some get up and go.

Thanks for the compliments, yea the new ones are a bit roided out, but I wouldn't mind my car on roids if you know what I mean. I would gladly drive most any mustang, but I got lucky with ending up with a 68.
