Add Coolant Light

Add Coolant Light
I own a 2000 Mustang GT Convert. About 3 weeks ago the add coolant light came on. I went to the dealership and bought a gallon of Motorcraft Premium engine coolant, mixed a 50/50 ration of coolant and distilled water and topped off my coolant tank (it was not very low). I thought this would take care of the problem, it did'nt.

The add coolant light does not come on all the time. I would say it is on about 60% of the time. I have been watching the tempature gauge closely. It is well within the normal operating range and has not shown a high tempature spike.

I am thinking it is probably a sensor in the coolant tank.

I sure could use some help and advice with this problem. If anyone thinks the problem is the sensor, how hard is it to change and how expensive is it? If it is not the sensor what could be causing the add coolant light to come on?

Thanks in advaance for your help. I am posting for the first time.

I think you answered your own question, I think its pretty obvious that if you coolant level is correct and your light is on, then you have a bad sensor, bad plug, or bad wiring. The latter two is not likely.
