Default which engine is the best choice?

I have a 98 mustang GT with an automatic. The only problem is that it came with a blown engine. So my question is which engine is the best bang for the buck. I would love the cobra motor, but I am not sure about mating it up with the automatic transmission. So any advice would be appreciated.

welcome, imo, the 98 DOHC, is the best from those you mentioned
1998 SOHC-NPI engine, only 215 rated HP
2000 SOHC-PI but still restrictive 260 HP rated
1998 DOHC-1996-1998 (i think, maybe 95 as well) had the TEKSID blocks, which are sometimes called "bulletproof" and can handle 1000 HP or so
