Default Dead Battery

Hello all, purchased my dream girl about 6 months ago after both kids were grown and gone.
But found that the battery would die if it wasn't started within two or so weeks. The dealer said I needed a trickle charger, but a few of you fellow stangers found that if you turned off the radio before turning off the car that the battery would stay charged. Is that the case?

Thanks.

S197 Shaker 500/1000. Yes, turn the stereo off before turning the car off.

When it happened to me I got a chance to find one of my '98s weak points: the crappiest battery battery cable connectors ever made. They are tiny sheet metal jokes that look suitable for a 9 volt application. I put real ones on and no more problems
