I am new to this site and I not yet an owner of a mustang. I recently found out that my wife wants a divorce, and i am wanting to change my image, and owning a Mustang is a perfect start. Anyone got any words of wisdom about buying a used Mustang. I havent yet decided on a 6 cyl or a 8 cyl. I like the power with the GT and the way they sound and look but w/ gas prices the way they are I might settle on a 6cyl. Does the 6 cyl have pretty good HP and what is the difference in gas millage?

This is kinda what I am leaning to a 6cyl with I beleive GT rims.

the gas mileage btwn the v8 and v6 are very similiar, maybe 2-3 mpg and imo i think u should just opt for the v8....and also if ur over 25, then ur insurance should be good on a gt....cuz id have a feeling that if u get a v6, ur gonna be like "why didnt i just get the gt?" but the v6 is still an awesome car too, and if ur just driving it to cruise around, then the 6 is a good car to have....

btw that v6 in that pic also has a gt rear bumper, check out the engine, maybe its a v8 just with the GT emblems shaven off.

Welcome!

I have a 6er and it's a good start for a mustang. But I also have one because my insurance would kill me if I had a v8 right now. I'm only 19 and got the car when I was only 17.

If you can get the 8, go for it- but 6 cyl. can easily be modded to hang with the GTs as well. Plus you can find them cheaper since they're not always in high demand.

Best of luck.

If you are looking for image, how 'bout a Mustang ragtop? I have a '98 ragtop with a V6-auto (for sale by the way, but TN is a bit far from DE) which I have loved. With the top up on the highway I get about 27.5 mpg (25 mpg with the top down), and almost 19mpg around town. Tires, rims, springs and body kits are available to personalize Mustangs to suit your taste. See what is available for sale around you - if you find a GT you like, then go for it. Just don't pass up a V6 without taking one out for a spin.

I think compared to my four cylinder zx2 and my v6 mustang i get really good gas mileage. A v8 doesn't get that bad of gas mileage as long as you aren't gunning it all the time. Drive with your brain not your foot and you should be okay with a v8. As for the sound you can always modify your v6 i put a dual exhaust on mine. So hope that helps.

Hmm, quite a few awesome sixers on this site are driven by... MEN.

It's all good, I'm planning on a mach/cobra one day, then I'll give all the 6er haters a run and a half for their money.

if you care only about looks, get a 6. if you want a car that is fun to drive with decent power, get a gt. I think the gt's look mean too, with the hood / side scoops. The 6er in my opinion (don't try to kill me, 6ers) is pretty weak cause stangs are so damn heavy. Need a v8 just to get the big horse moving. modding a v6 to make it perform maybe as well as a gt doesn't make much sense if you can get a gt to begin with.
