Default new member with a more than likely typical story

ok, so a few years ago a friend of mine had a 87 gt, blue/grey. he got ripped for the price he paid just for the fact that it pieced togather. the doors were not right and sagged, the wind blew the fenders which were not right around, the hatch was definatly not right and leaked. the heater core was done and the thing was pretty much spray painted. but man did that thing move. the guy he bought it from said up and down that it was bone stock, but i still do not believe that. does anyone else here have to start in 2nd when racing? he beat a harley with that thing. just crazy fast.
so now, im in the navy, his mustang's motor blew and is long gone. but i wanted a car that was a fast as his out of the box, and only got faster with work. so i set my mind on getting one. you know, i really didnt have much money, but i was serious about getting one. SO i waited until it was time to go on a deployment. save some money. ya know. which i was able to do. i got back to the united states with about 4 grand saved up. (and yes, that is alot for me to save up, being an e-2) so i started a search and found a relitively nice 89 lx with a mach 1 hood. it was a 4 cyl. swap for the 302. he tells me all of this stuff is done to it. 4.11's with a detroit locker. boss heads. msd. comes to find out when i start working on the car that the only true thing he told me was the msd, and its not even hooked up. im sure the rear gears have been changed out, but they are 3.55's with lim. slip. the thing leaked oil like crazy, so i diagnosed that it was the valve cover gaskets, which it was. and learned that someone put some crane cams roller rockers in, but i have no idea what size. (and when they did, the idiot didnt take out the oil spreader panel thing. cracked with misseing metal.)
anyways, to make a even longer story short, i have the mustang ive been waiting for, currently its broke down with a bad ignition module and stator. but soon to be fixed, waiting on the mail. and here i am wanting the knowledge everyone else out there has learned which i dont have. and i want to go faster, so ill be looking for help with that as well.

thanks for having me

Man, sounds like that dude was an @$$ and i think i would have went back to him and beat the living crap out of him. But if it does have the 302 swap then you are much better off. What color is the car...got any pics?
