New Houston area member saying hello
New to this site, but not new to Mustangs.
My handle says it all. I owned a 1973 Mach 1, 1987 5.0 auto hatchback, and a 1989 5.0 stick notchback. I really enjoyed all of these cars and lately since the 5.0 has made a huge comeback, the itch may be coming back.
I love performance cars, but I'm afraid Ford hasn't put out anything lately that has really gotten my attention or put out any car under $40,000 that has grabbed my attention. Since my 1989 Stang, my performance cars have been a 1995 Z-28 stick, 2005 Pontiac GTO auto, 2009 Corvette auto, and my current car is a 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP auto. My wife is a severe diabetic, so driving stick shift cars are pretty much out of the question.
I post on several GM related forums and go by the handle 'old_goat' on all of them.
I am very excited about Fords new engine and some of the press I have seen has been outstanding. Even though I am a GM fan, I enjoy seeing the Chevy fanbois getting all upset about the new 5.0. Looks like some good days ahead for Mustang vs. Camaro vs. Challenger. Us Pontiac fans have to move on.
My GXP is one hell of a car that has made several 12.9 runs at Houston Raceway Park in good weather, but every now and then something comes along and gets your attention. One thing that grabbed my attention about the Mustang was a write up in one of the major car mags where the grossly underpowered Mustang beat the Camaro and Challenger in a three way match. Now that the Mustang is playing on more of a level playing field things are different.
So, now it's time to do some serious searching. There isn't really much concrete information out about the 2011's yet, but as more get on the street, there will be more information. The things I need to search are things such as how the dealers will react to mods, will they be ****, or allow some freedom to mod. I know how GM is, but will Ford (SVT?) allow more freedom to mod without any chance of losing portions of warranty? Another thing I am interested in, but will take time, is the manual vs. automatic in the quarter. One thought I had is this, right now the prices are great on the GT's, so take a great price on a GT, take the savings and get some bolt ons or even a blower and you have one fast and brand new car.
So, there is a lot of searching and thinking to do.
