Making the leap into American Build
Hi everyone.
Long time lurker here who finally pulled the trigger and ordered my first Mustang or American built car ever. I have been a Toyota, Honda, and Acura owner and believe that American cars (specially Ford) are coming up to the same level of technical engineering, performance, and reliability as their Japanese counterparts. They certainly have come a long way from the Ford Tempo. Man what a snoozer that car was.
In my teens I was an owner of Toyota Celica. That car gave me 150,000 miles before it was wrecked. I also remembered when Toyota designed a Celica that was Mustang Fastbackish and I secretly wished that I have it because of its looks. I guess this means that I always wanted a Mustang, but at the time (the early 90's) the quality of American vehicles kept me miles away.
From there, I owned Hondas, Nissans, and more Toyotas. All reliable as hell, but particularly bland. Wife has the Acura because she has to have "luxury" under her ***. I have turned into Mr. Totalitarian Practicalism Maximus and currently am driving my manual 2002 Toyota Rav-4 to the ground. 210,000 miles with no problems at all. I swear, nothing but oil changes. It even has the original coolant in the radiator, muffler, cv joints, rear brakes, ac freon. Ok, you get the picture.
Not to say I am Mr. Bore Bland also. I get my kicks by racing jetskies and mountain bikes, but I can't complete my life without owning a Mustang. My only debate is whether to go V6 or V8. I know what you are thinking, I have spent months trolling on the boards regarding the subject. In the end I ordered the 2013 V6 because I know it would break my heart to dog the vehicle. And if you have more than 300 hp under the hood, the only reason you need more is to race in a track. Everything else is just ******* it. At least that is how I feel now.
I placed the order for a sterling gray 2013 V6 premium with glass roof with the rear camera. I got a great price through my military buying program. Essentially, I am paying the same as if I would have bought a leftover 2012. Only issue now is waiting for delivery in July. I will keep lurking and pop back up when the vehicle arrives.
Okay, I am long winded; I know. As you can imagine, I am just exited to join the Mustang community.
Out here.
