Default Aloha!

Hi all, great site here!

My name's Jim, I live in Honolulu HI. I'm working on replacing the head gaskets (1996 Mustang GT), and I found this site thru some google searches.

I found some good info so far, but I'm still having a hard time getting at the bolts where the H-pipe connects to the exhast manifold.

Specifically, the 02 sensor on the passenger side is blocking the bolt and I can't get a wrench onto the 02 sensor. I managed to get it started, but the frame is in the way of turning the wrench any further. I've never seen this before... usually flipping the wrench works, but not this time.

I guess I could modify the wrench, and then bring it back to sears for a new one after, but it's starting to look like I'll have to raise the engine anyway..??
In my searches, I've heard different opinions on this.

I guess I'll start a new thread in the tech section... but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Should I just bite the bullet and pull the engine right out?

Thanks,

Jim

.... I raised the engine a couple inches, and was able to get at that 02 sensor from the side gap between the frame and body... Now the fun begins... the bolts that hold hold the manifold to the head look like they're gonna be hard to reach.

Thanks for the welcome, I'll take the rest of the story to the tech section when I get a chance.

I got the head off with the manifold still connected to it.

Thanks again for the welcome guys.. I went ahead and started a thread in the tech section.

This looks like a tricky problem. The guy ay the machine shop said it's tough one, and one old timer told me he went thru this before with bad results... he did the heads, but it didn't fix the problem..

I'm hoping that someone here is familiar with the situation.
