Question Cold Air Intake Problem..Need help!!

I've had a 1999 Ford Mustang GT for about two years now and recently came across a baffling situation. As I was driving down the road at 25 mph, the car randomly shut off...happened about 3 times after that as well...then stopped. Then, picked back up and kept happening intermittently until one day, it wouldn't even kick over anymore. Took it to a Ford dealership in Columbus, Oh and they said the cold air intake was clogged and was choking the engine. Seems plausible...but I noticed (along with giving me half the wrong invoice to someone else's Taurus) that they said the cold air intake "still has problems".

First, would a clogged cold air intake cause this problem?
Secondly, what other problems would still be there (and why didn't they fix it)?

If your CAI has leaks it will give your Mass Air Flow sensor a lean reading. I had the same problem with my wife's 2002 vert that came with a CAI when we bought it. The CAI tube came loose and the car sputtered and died on me. All I had to do to fix it was to make sure the tube was on secure.

As far as a it being clogged, The filter should be cleaned and if you haven't cleaned it in two years it may have been clogged and starving your engine.

If it's still giving you problems then check to see if the filter was cleaned or replaced and check all the connections in the tube from the filter to the throttle body to see if there are any leaks.

welcome

If you haven't cleaned or replaced the filter in 2 years, that could be it.
