Default Order vs Extended Inventory

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, but not the world of Mustangs. I've been searching the web and local dealers trying to find the one I want, but no luck. The dealers keep telling me they can find me what I'm looking for but it's been almost 2 weeks and nothing. I asked them about ordering one, but they didn't seem to think there was a reason to do that. Does anyone know how long the process takes from ordering to delivery? Or, at this point, should I just wait for the dealers to find the one I want?

I ordered my wife's 2015 convertible on February 2. It should arrive at the dealership the first week of April. It will have taken approximately two weeks longer than originally expected. I'm not sure if there's a time difference when ordering a coupe versus a convertible.

It's time to try another dealer. They obviously don't want to sell you a car. If it's this bad just trying to get them to find a car and they won't order one for you just think how bad they will be when you need warranty work done.

You should just order a car from another dealer and get exactly what you want.

There is more incentive for a dealer to sell you one (off the lot) versus ordering one. Not only monetarily but also in terms of their "days on lot" inventory. If they transfer one from another dealer to theirs to sell it to you the average day for that car is only a few days, that looks good on paper vs nothing sold from the lot but a vehicle was factory ordered.

The dealers you have contacted are probably low volume so a single car can make a bid difference to them. Find another dealer, preferably the biggest one in your area.

I never thought of it that way, but that is a good point. Hopefully, I never need warranty work done, but that's most likely unavoidable.

Thanks for the advice! That makes sense, and also explains why I've seen a few postings that state "not transferable". I'd drive 4-5 hours to get the car I want. I've been waiting for so long to buy this car, I don't want to "settle" on local inventory.

Thanks for the help Art! BTW...I think it's great that a fictious "architect" ordered his wife's car to specs. Perfect
