My steering shaft comes off while I am driving, it slips off under the brake petal. I cant drive it, i fear of wrecking it. Why does the shaft slip down and what can i do to stop it from slipping?

 

if u cant tell what it needs by looking at it, have it towed in to be fixed properly.

The complete steering column runs from the steering wheel, thru the firewall, then the steering shaft attaches and runs down to the steering box.

Do you mean the column itself isn't bolted tight under the dash, and is loose ?
