Default Paint Questions

I've got a black 2010 GT. I just purchased it in January 2016 and we had some storms come through the end of March and, unfortunately, it took some damage. I've got a friend of mine that owns a body shop doing the work for me and insurance is covering the cost. My question is pretty simple... How difficult and expensive will it be to add a metallic aspect to the plain black paint? Is it a completely different paint or can it be done as a clear coat? I apologize if this is fairly common knowledge.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your '10 GT.

I believe the metallic is in the paint, which would mean a complete repaint.

Unless there's some new product that has the metallic in the clear, but I've never seen that yet. Of course it's been 10 yrs since I've painted. I'd Google it.

If you are doing a complete respray it's going to be fairly expensive (door jambs etc...), but doing the exterior with a metallic black shouldn't be too much more.

The labor involved with a full-respray (door jambs, etc..) is pretty intense.

Ask him for quotes on both

2013 stang - the black paint under the clear is vanishing on the lip of my trunk lid. I say vanishing because it is peeling but the clear but the clear is still in tact. I have never seen paint do this. Any one else experience this?
