stereo upgrade from 4.2 screen to bigger double din recommendations
I have a 2017 mustang.I'm looking to install a bigger receiver with apple car play but all I can find to install one is Metra 99-5838CH that goes for around 500 dollars! that seems a little high just to be able to install a new stereo receiver. Any suggestions would be appreciated I would rather put those 500 into the engine or something else other a dash kit.

The Apple Car Play is overrated. The apps you can use on it are so limited, you can't even use Google Maps or Waze. I actually disabled the function on my Sync3 so I always have the normal screen. I do love the big display though!

Interesting about the Apple Car Play. On my android auto app Waze and Google Maps works fine. I used it on my last trip because my maps haven't been updated on the SHO and I knew that there was a change on part of the trip. The added benefit of Waze is the alerts from other users.

So, an android based radio would be top dog then...
Eonon has a ford replacement, which I found AFTER hooking mine up with
all the adapters...
Mine has two USB cables, long enough to run to the center console, under the
arm rest. Both support up to 64GB thumb drives, or one a Cell dongle. Two
MicroSD card slots, one can be used for offline Map data. Torque app was also
included, and I already have the dongle for one, so I can put gauges up on the
screen. It was like $200, but I had $48.00 in eBay bucks, so I bought it, the
Scosche adapters and mounting stuff. It's louder and more crisp than the
shaker 500 head unit. So, I am going to replace the factory 6x8s with Kicker
6x8s. Maybe the door subs if I find a decent pair. I will Dynamat the doors while
I am at it.
Turned out to be a great buy, does everything I want, and can add whatever I want
as far as android apps.
