All Original 65 Engine Paint
I recently inherited my fathers 65 coupe that is completely factory original. Paint, body panels, engine, trans, interior etc all original and only 69,000 miles on it. Garage kept in the same garage its entire life and still parked there now. It is the car I learned to drive in when I was 16 and I'm 60 now. I'm trying to figure out an oddity of this car we have been aware of for a long time but never found anyone who could give us a definitive answer as to why and if there are others. The car came with the 200 hp 289 (2 barrel) the car is Rangoon Red with a black interior, but has a silver block and orange valve covers. The air cleaner is gold as it should be. Obviously the block should be black and the valve covers the same colour as the air cleaner. The only explanation we have had as a possible reason for the change is that they were pumping them out so fast in 65 and occasionally they ran out of the proper paints and to keep production going they sprayed parts with what ever they had. Makes sense but is still only a theory. Anyone else out there ever see or hear about other 65 Mustangs out there like this and why they exist?
