What's Up guys? I just found out that for my first car I will be getting an '87 GT Fox Body, and I couldn't be more excited. My dad has always had mustangs, and I grew up helping him work on his cars. The car is in great shape, and I should get it in a couple of weeks, I will post pictures ASAP. The only thing is that I have been taking some crap from a couple of my friends (one drives an '85 Camaro IROC-Z, the other a 2006 Neon SRT-4) on the basis that my car is an automatic. As a first question, I want to ask you guys if an Automatic can be viable in a race. I know how to drive a stick, as both of my dad's cars are manuals, but the car I am getting is an automatic.
autos are vaible in racing but its not a stick......different methods have to be used...some people go for 1st to send to drive others keep it in d and turn the od button off.......but gets some gears 4.10s and exuast and cai to start out with
Welcome to the forums.
Your automatic is fine for speed. Most pro cars are auto so it minimizes driver error. It is not fun to miss a shift in a powerful car and leave the tranny on the side of the road. You will find a lot of stuff that can help out to keep it at the top of its game.
Again, welcome
