Default Motorcraft vs. Ford Racing Oil Filter

Swapping to Mobil 1 synthetic. Previous owner used conventional oil and Motorcraft filters.

Is it fine to use a Motorcraft filter with synthetic oil?

Also, is there a signifcant benefit of using a Ford Racing oil filter?

Car is a 2005 GT daily driver with about 31K that will get an occassional Test & Tune track night in the summer months.

Thanks!

The Stang actually came from the factory with synthetic blend. Too bad the previous owner used dino. Hopefully he changed it at 3,000 mile intervals. The blend is good for 7000 miles and full syn for 10,000 or more. I currently run 10,000 miles on Amsoil but have no problem extending that if I need to. Multiple vehicles of mine have gone beyond 200,000 miles with no issues based on 10,000 -12,000 mile oil changes.

The stock OE Motorcraft filter has very good filtering and flow and is fine for synthetic. The FRPP filter has a higher burst pressure but you don't need that unless you race.

The only drawback with the OE filter is the capacity for particulates; I'd be leary to go beyond 8000 miles with the OE filter even though you can run full synthetic oil much longer. Change the Motorcraft filter midway thru the oil change interval in that case. I have no data on the OE filters capacity in actuality so I err to the conservative side.

I'm using Amsoil 0w20 and Mobil1 filter, 8k intervals. No complaints

Motorcraft OE filter is very good. Myself, I have used them, but I use Purolator Pure One myself.

Motorcraft 820S filter is a very good filter and the only one I use now. Available at wal-mart for real reasonable prices, too!

Thanks for all the great input.

Wow- didn't know the car came factory loaded with synthetic oil! I bought the car this summer from an Audi dealer. The car was traded in with 28K from the original owner. The Audi dealer changed the oil and used conventional. I have no idea what the original owner used for the 28K.

From what I've read, there should be no problems switching back to synthetic- does everyone agree?

Thanks!

Yes you can switch back to synthetic. 99% sure. But you may need to change the oil with fewer miles the first time.

Have you ever heard of seafoam? I've seen posts for this. I guess it will clean out the engine. Not sure if it's safe or not.

Ford fills these cars with their semi-synthetic blend 5w-20, not a full syn oil. It is a very good oil that if used by the previous owner, would have done well in your engine. It is made by ConocoPhillips if anyone cares.
