Default Oil?

Sorry guys I'm a late bloomer to this site so I probably missed the consensus on what brand/grade/type oil we should be using in the 08 GT's? I have 90,000 miles.

Ford reccomends 5w-20, however that reccomendation is grounded in the idea that 5w-20 will yield slightly better fuel economy. Run either 5w-20 or 5w-30 and you should be all set. Depending on how well the car was maintained and how regular oil changes were made, I would run a fully synthetic motor oil such as Mobil 1.

Religious oil changes every 5000 from the day I drove it off the lot. Had it done at Ford, but now since I own it out right, Mobil 1 sounds good. Filters??

Napa Gold is a great filter (made by WIX, which is a large supplier of OEM Caterpillar filters also) or, you can never go wrong with a OE Motorcraft filter. Walmart sells both Mobil 1 in 5qt jugs and motorcraft oil filters at a very good price.

I needed to clarify, the mustang is probably going to need about 6.5qts of oil if you do a filter & oil change.

Glad you said that, although, obviously, I always check the dipstick. WOW to 6.5 qts.

If your going to change it every 5000 miles, I would buy something cheaper like Pennzoil or Motorcraft. You cant go wrong with a motorcraft filter too.

even the Amsoil OE line would be a great choice for a 5,000 interval. It's formulated with a hydrocracked base stock, API SN : ILSAC GF-5 : Dexos 1 certified. Made to compete with Mobil 1 at almost half the price, yet same quality.
