What's a blower?

RE: What's a blower?
Please tell me you don't really mean that? You have 341 posts, and nobody explained that a blower is a supercharger?
Blower, Huffer, Supercharger...All the same thing.
Juice, Spray, NOS, Nitrous, Nitro (thanks Hang 10), NAWWS, Laughing Gas...All the same thing.
Turbo, Every ricers wet dream, blowtorch...All the same.
Good luck with this.

RE: What's a blower?
A blower, supercharger, whipplecharger all basically do the same thing. They increase air density, or raise the VE (volumetric efficiency) of the engine. Like stuffing 10 pounds into a 5 pound bag. An avarage motor has a VE of about 85%. A race engine(without power adders, if done very well) may reach 105-110%. So you are increasing the volume of the air/fuel mixture going into a cylinder. The down side is higher cylinder pressures, and increased heat and of course detonation.
N2O or Nitrous Oxide does basically the same thing. Nitrous just supplies an additional amount of oxygen into the engine (under a lot of pressure) and it allows the engine to burn the fuel at a faster rate. Again higher cylinder pressure and more heat.
Nitro (BTW) is Nitro Methane. Used by Funny Cars and Top Fuel dragsters. Not to be confused with Nitrous.
This is also why is both situations they suggest an aftermarket ignition and coil. Due to the cylinder pressures it will actually "blow out" the spark from a standard system. Not a good thing.

RE: What's a blower?
it pressurerises the air going into the engine,,with more fuel,,to give it more power ,,like extra cu,in...or nos..the compressed air with out the additional fuel would make it run lean in hurt engine,,has to be tuned just right...

RE: What's a blower?
heh, no that wasnt me in the avatar. just some random old guy wearing a wal-mart bag
and the question about the blower came about because i always thought it was a supercharger, but ive heard a couple people say they were two seperate things...
oh well, here comes the fun this saturday... going to help the step-dad replace his ford ranger engine
and im getting my new block the saturday after that
