Default Exhaust upgrade for 86 GT

Need some help!! Its time to upgrade my 86 gt original exhaust but I have limited funds. I have read all about the preferred catback systems which everyone has talked about but when I check out the different systems online I was blown away at the prices. I want a system with much better sound than the OEM system but not to loud. I know you get what you pay for but limited cash is a problem. No more than 400.

Whats the difference between 2.25 and 2.5 size pipe in performance and sound???

Any input would be awesome.

MACs will be $265 for a 2.5" kit. that sound like a good price?? especially compared to $800 spintechs??

Thanks mkspeed26 for the info!! I checked out the site but I didnt see anything for a GT. The LX and GT are similar but the systems listed are listed as LX models, will they still fit? The LX and GT for this year are very similar. One last thing, will the sound be more aggressive with the MAC system?? Still looking for an upgrade.

Thanks

they do sell kits for the 86 GT, go to www.50resto.com . they have it. if you want to listen to them go to www.mustangworld.com and go to the sounds section. they have tons of sound clips. and F*CK YA THEY DO SOUND MORE AGGRESIVE!!!

if you want want a good sounding exhaust system but dont want it to loud and really not worried about performance i would go with the force II cat back kit though flowmaster. just my 2 sense. there quieter than the ameican thunder and use 50 seriers and the drone isnt as bad

flows suck. point has been made many times. they sound good, but now it seems like every other stang sounds that same way! plus, they do hold up power a good bit more than other cat-backs

yes mkspeed we all no how you feel but he doesnt have alot of money to buy the best exhaust out there. so hes limited to a few choices and he said he wants it to sound much better than oem but not too loud. besides i had mac catback on a 87 lx 5.0 i used to own and the tail pipes dont last very long. mac sound good but they dont last. hts coating dont last and the chrome dont last.

first of all, MACs are very inexpensive. second, what do you mean by "not lasting"?

Hey folks thanks for all the great feedback!! I ended up buying the MAC's. My Mustang will never see any harsh winters, I store the car in the winters. Hopefully buy storing the car the life of the system will be extended. I found alot of Stang users went with MAC and have been very happy, it just is a question of how long will they last.

My system is expected to show up 3/5/04. I ordered thru a company which I paid with freight totaling 292.00. Hard to beat that. The company is out of Texas at www.50resto.com. Lots of parts to restore your mustangs. Checkem out. I'll feedback after the system is installed.
