Default Snow Performance Methonal cooler Questions

I've got a 93 convert. with a Vortech blown 351. It has the snow performance stage two boost cooler that the original owner added. It is set up to use the wiper fluid resivoir to hold the meth/water mixture. Couple things...1: The methonal seems to evaporate quite quickly leaving mostly water (not the 50/50 mix I put in) within a few days. I'm concerned that this will mess with my tune or create other problems. I have been told the water alone is ok to cool the charge and avoid detonation and not to worry about the meth water ratio. this does not sound right to me, but I am not mechanically inclined and used to an air/water intercooler vs. the meth system. Any thoughts on how to avoid the evaporation issue, if the water alone is a problem, or other general thought on the use of such a system. I have also been told that you can use a variety of other fluids (e.g. some types of wiper fluid) can be used, but am a little leary of trying such things. Thanks for any insight you can give.

The mix is critical and don't run just water. It has no igniting capabilities. I have never heard of the methanol evaporating. How do you know it's doing this? Yes you can use washer fluid but it has to have a certain freezing point as that determines how much methanol is in the mix. Play it safe though and just buy the meth and mix it correctly.

Our local mustang shop uses the kit on several of its cars and warned me about the evaporation. I spoke to a guy at Snow Performance who also said it can be an issue, especially in hot climates. I had to do some testing for myself. I had filled it up 50/50 mix and let it sit for 5 days and 1/3 was gone. Drained it, filled with H2O only, let it sit for 5 days with similar temps (no driving either time) and about 90% was there. Not the most scientific but a clear difference.

maybe you have a leak? i have the mr. freeze kit and absolutely none has ever evaporated. i rarely boost on the street but my paranoia forces me to check the meth level on each rare ocation i floor it while daily driving and the tank is full.

I've ckecked for leaks and have not located any. I've better sealed the resevoir lid, but still see some loss. My main concern is what may happen if I get into an extended high boost run and I've got the incorrect mix or too little fluid period. I try to check it regularly if I think I might run hard at all. Meth is just hard to get here without ordering online and that gets expensive (55+shipping+haz mat fee) for 5-gal) over time. Any thoughts on how/where to get it cheaper?

this is interesting...never really thought about it and i definitely never heard of anyone having a problem because of it. still haven't tuned the stang for w/m inj yet, but i used to keep the resevoir topped off on my old dd and never really noticed any missing from evaporating. it seems logical though. snow performance sells "boost juice" that's a 50/50 mix. i don't think its very cheap but there's no hazmat charge if you can't get straight methanol near you. you can get it at the track or anywhere that sells race fuels for about 3.50 a gal
