Default Exhaust & Cold Air Intake for Dummies...

I would like to add either a Flowmaster or Magnaflow exhaust as well as a Cold air intake to my 06' Mustang GT when I take delivery. Is this something a person with Limited automotive experience can tackle? I really want to do the mods myself, but don't want to screw anything up. Your help would be greatly appreciated...

i did both before i really had any automotive knowledge at all. the intake was simple, and the exhaust is pretty straight forward. the only problem i had was very rusty exhaust bolts, but you shouldnt have that problem

o by the way, is the exhaust a cat back or full sytem?

dont know a whole lot about the 06 intake but if anything like all other cars, a cai wont do anything but look nice. either way, its your money and both are easy to install

CAI only really shows good HP numbder when you already have Full Exhaust and upgraded MAF , T/B and plenum.

as for exhaust , FLowmaster and Magnaflow are both highly reputable. I prefer Magnaflow because it has a solid deep tone. What you should look into is a cat-back system, it has 2.5in mandrel bent pipes for better sound and power. dont spend over $400 and dont get mufflers just weilded in inplace of your old mufflers, you will regret that. another common exhuast part to upgrade is the Mid-pipe. This will also effect power and sound. X pipes offer more power over H. An off road mid-pipe, or O/R, is the better way to go because it has no cat and thus frees up some more power and will sound better. Mid pipes are about 120 - 150 bucks if you look in 5.0 Mustang Magazine. an O/R X pipe and Catback will make your car sound like a BEAST. IAm not sure what the power gains would be for you and your year but 10 at the very least. If you want serious power then look into getting longtube headers.

other brands to consider/look into

Thank you. I'll probably go with O/R X pipe and Catback from Magnaflow. As for the CAI, what is an upgraded MAF? New to all this, sorry. You're saying upgrade to a CAI after the exhaust upgrade.. Will the Off road pipe get me introuble with warranty? How loud will it be, is their any files I could listen to with a O/R X and Cat back...? Sounds like a good plan...

Thank you.

to listen to sound clips of different exhaust's go to http://www.mustangexhaust.com/ and I am not sure about the warrenty but from what I hear replacing the midpipe will void the warrenty.. but like I said that is just what I have heard.. I am not sure.

Very nice. Thanks Shadowfoxx - great site with prices and sounds. I think the Flowmaster American Thunder Axle backs may be just the ticket for starting out. Do I need any Tuning with this install, or jusst bolt on?

it just bolts on. id reset the computer by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 20 minutes. not a big mod but its a good idea to reset it after any mod that effects engine air flow

a midpipe won't void your warranty. nothing voids the whole warranty. unless the part can be linked to a failed part, it's not voided.
