Default intercooler question

i just installed a centrifical supercharger on my 04 gt and now i think that my car is running so much hotter. between the intake tube and the powerpipe they get so hot that i think its really gonna break my engine. the mechanic that installed the s/c for me said that its not worth the money but what do you guys think? is the intercooler or aftercooler(whatever it may be) worth the money?

as long as you're not running over 10psi, your engine is going to be fine, so long as the guy that installed it knows how to tune as well. if you're worried about the heat, get a boost cooler. they rock me and they only cost $400.

did you relocate your iat sensor? i plumbed mine in after the headunit so the car knows when to pull timing when it gets too hot. If it is still in the maf, it wont read the heat less it is a blow thru. Does your temp gauge go up or are you just feeling the heat from the blower to tb pipe? My cars temp is fine and i sit in traffic in 110* heat out here in vegas everyday on teh way home from work and my temp never budges. That being said, i want to pulley down a bit and would love to have a big ole cooler hanging in teh front. but the boost cooler like nan said is probably a much easier and cheaper way to go.

nah the gauges still stays right in the middle, but the fan sounds like it is always on now and i mean the power pipe and the intake pipe get really hot. it just bothers me a little that the mechanic said i shouldnt really get on it all the time being its summer time and all. i guess when people tell me i cant do something it makes me want to do it that much more. well thanks for that advice i will definitely look into getting a boost cooler. wheres a good place to get one of those. ive never even heard of them before.

www.snowperformance.net

you should actually give them a call. they'll answer any and all questions you might have. turbostang on this forum had me wanting one, then i called them and they sealed the deal for me.

boost coolers are great! they will keep boost temps down and add a bunch of power. the only problem is you have to keep filling them up with methanol and they dont do anything when just cruzing around, they only activate when your running it hard and making boost

the underhood temps will certainly higher after a sc unit...that is normal. you should feel mine after running it hard...certainly a "con" as far as turbos but well worth it. i am intercooled and i still made 40whp from methanol injection with NO TUNING....just from the lower intake temps. unbelievable hp per dollar. i decided to leave it that way and not tune for more power from the methanol since im pretty much at my tranny's limits and it's a street car. i finally have some pics and the new dyno sheet that i will be posting soon in the 5.0 section....but i go back on the dyno tuesday to make a full pull since i we had a small issue and only pulled to about 5400 rpms (normally 6200) and it has some part throttle misses on the street that needs attention. a whipplecharged 03 cobra picked up 60whp w/ snow's maf kit eariler today...the guy couldn't believe it.

if a generally hot condition is what he's worrying about though, a boost cooler won't help that, will it?

i could be wrong, but it doesnt seem like it would. an intercooler would help, but only while you're moving. high engine compartment temps are common with setups like that.

on a side note: i have an ati procharger running 12psi, 3 core intercooler, and long tube headers.......and with all that, my engine compartment is HOT!!!! engine temp is perfectly normal, but holy crap do you ever feel the heat roll out when i open the hood. it's kinda nice on all those cold nights when people wanna see the car though!!

i was running my stang pretty hard with the boost cooler and it still took me over a month before refilling my resevoir. it wasn't even completely empty either. i made 47RWHP from that bad boy on just the cheap blue wiper fluid. could have gotten probably 60RWHP if i ran the 50/50 boost juice.
