Default 134k miles, turbo safe?

I recently talked to a mechanic and they said putting in a turbo or s/c is likely a quick path to a dead engine with the chance of the extra compression/power causing blow-by and such. What do you all think?

After reading the turbo sites, I'm getting pretty s/c shy with the idea of always losing fuel economy no matter if I keep my lead foot under control or not.

If I instead wind up going towards h/c/i then I'd want to increase compression which would make it less capable of putting on a turbo or s/c at a later date. I feel like I'm pretty trapped if I want to beef up the car decently or not all at once.

I had over 95,000 when I put my turbo kit. Sure your gonna have some oil leaks but once those gaskets are replaced you should be fine. But then again it comes down to how good of condition your engine is in. If the rings are bad, you are gonna have a lot of blow-by causing too much pressure in the crankcase. That was what everyone told me and I have had mine on for about 4 months now and haven't done anything but pop the oil pan gasket and timing chain cover gasket. Aside from that mine is doing fine. Just took it to the the dyno yesterday and found out that I'm extremely too rich and the guy said that it was probably hurting the motor and I'm gonna go back to even it out a little. It'll give me more HP and make the engine safer. Just make sure that if you do it, you do it right. And be responsible on boost. Don't try to boost your stock motor with like 15+ PSI if you don't wanna take the chance of replacing it. That's just my $0.02 though.

Well i would deff go a Turbo over a SC but I would build my motor first man.. you will be able to get sooo much more power!!! instead of like 400hp like 700+ .. with a turbo (depending on size) you just have to turn the boost up!!

i think if you do a leak down test of your jugs, that will give you some better info to go by. if you are close to stock, boost away, just dont get crazy.

took the words right out of my mouth...

as well as a leak down test, do a compression test to see if you are within factory specs... if you are good there, then go for the leak down test.
