Need Pipe Advice!
Ok, I need an exhaust system that performs well, and sounds nice. I don't want something too loud but something that sounds good! If you guys can point me into the right direction, because I don't know anything about exhaust, and I don't want to be disappointed with what I get so I look to you guys. What kind of horse power gain am I looking at depending on the system? And how much does it run to get it installed? Thanks!
Headers:
Shorties for good power, and fit directly to midpipe.
Longtubes for better power, but do not pass emmissions.
Mid Pipes:
H-Pipe for low end torque and deep, throaty exhaust.
X-Pipe for high end horsepower and higher pitched exhaust.
Mufflers:
Straight through mufflers such as Magnapacks for highest power gains.
Chambered mufflers like Flowmaster for good power gains, and killer sound (IMO).
Price:
All depends on how well you shop. I recommend doing a lot of research.
You want the most horsepower? Get an X pipe with Magnaflow exhaust.
I did NOT do this because i love the sound of an H pipe with Flowmaster mufflers.
In my opinion, even though the Xpipe Magnaflow Combo makes more power,
the H Pipe Flowmaster combo makes almost the same power gains, but sounds
deeper and more aggressive, kinda like a 60s musclecar with a big block.

You will pass emmissions with an X pipe and an H pipe as long as they have catalytic convertors (at least one on each side). The h pipe will sound deeper than the x pipe, depending on the mufflers you get. Keep posting with any more questions you have and ill try my best to get back to you.
So catalytic converters are what they mean by catbacks? What do the catyalytic converters do? Thanks again, sorry for the newbie type questions. Don't know much about exhaust, my first mustang and all. Gotta learn somehow right
